New campaign aims to promote sustainability, reduce waste

Figures shared with the public by the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States say that, each and every day, the average Joe or Jane in this part of the world coughs out 4.38 pounds (1.98 kilograms) of trash. Of this, it is estimated that just 34% is recycled or composted.

Global Citizen and Ekocycle don't really approve of this situation and have decided to help folks in the United States green up their ways by launching a new anti-waste campaign. Thus, this coming April 9 marks (or at least should mark) A Day Without Waste.

The greenheads behind this initiative explain that the goal is to convince people to drop habits such as using plastic bags when shopping, drinking their coffee from single-use cups, and ordering meals to-go.

Although it might not seem like much, making small changes such as using a plastic bag more than once can really make a difference on the long run, the environmentalists behind Global Citizen and Ekocycle say.

Interestingly enough, this green-oriented campaign lets people confess to one offense against the environment or another, and then bail themselves out by promising to put that particular habit behind them.

Check out the video above to learn more on what you can do to be more environmentally friendly, and head over to A Day Without Waste admit to your offenses and promise to make amends.
