Even though the holiday season is typically slow in regards to news, companies still haven't turned their lights off and are even finishing up work on new kinds of innovative devices. A-Data is one such company. Deciding not to let the final days of 2009 go by without offering a basis for excitement, the DRAM and flash module maker launched yesterday the N002 dual-interface USB 30-SATA II combo flash drive. Now, hours before New Year's Eve, end-users can rest assured that they have one new world's first-type gadget to wish for when the last second of 2009 finally expires.

The N002 is built using the eight-channel architecture and is the industry's first flash drive module to integrate both of the aforementioned interfaces. The USB 3.0 will enable the product to operate at the now infamous speeds ten times greater than those achievable through USB 2.0. More specifically, the 5Gbps interface allows the drive to reach transfer rates of 200MB/s when reading and 170MB/s when writing.

Thanks to these read and write capabilities, end-users will store, transfer or share their files easily and very quickly, regardless of whether these are high-resolution images, audio files or Blu-ray quality videos. Not only that but the high storage capacities of the products make them well suited for fast transfer of large amounts of data.

The actual storage capabilities differentiate the four N002 models. The dual interface flash drive comes in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The USB 3.0 connection is backward compatible with the USB 2.0 ports, although transfer speeds will be much lower in such scenarios.

In addition, A-Data offers the UFDtoGO software and a 60-day free trial of the latest Norton Internet Security 2010 as free downloads. These software products will enhance N002's versatility and security.

The USB 3.0-SATA II combo flash drive is set to become available in January and will support all USB 3.0 platforms. The price has not yet been mentioned.
