Though regular products need to pass only minor safety tests, there are certain applications where electronics need to possess a significant amount of endurance, and A-Data has just revealed a flash drive that supposedly belongs to the rugged category.

A-Data has created a flash drive known as the Superior Series S007 and which is rugged enough to comply with the US MIL-STD-810F-514.5C-3 military standard.

What this means is that the newcomer has an enclosure with shock resistance and water protection, among other things.

The drive is thus protected thanks to its rubber housing, although the environment protection is definitely not its only asset.

In fact, since such ruggedness would not make sense without enough internal storage, A-Data decided to make it available in multiple capacity options.

The list includes a drive of 4 GB, one with 8 GB, one whose internal capacity is of 16 GB and, finally, a 32 GB flash drive.

All of them measure 80 (L) x 19 (W) x 9.7 (H) mm, have a weight of 13.6 grams and come with a key loop, whose purpose is to hold the cap in place when the device is plugged into an USB port.

As for the connectivity itself, A-Data decided to not jump straight into SuperSpeed territory, settling, instead, for the USB 2.0 connection. This lets the S007 read at 30 MB/s and write data at 8 MB/s.

Of course, so that it may communicate with with ever older systems, the newcomer is backwards compatible with USB 1.1 ports.

All in all, the A-Data Superior Series S007 is a durable, abuse-resistant piece of hardware whose price has, unfortunately, not been mentioned.

Until the pricing details do become available, those interested in a first-hand view of all the information available on the flash drive need only stop by the official product page that its maker has set up on its website.
