Once again it appears that the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface standard has scored a point on the popularity scale. By now, consumers certainly know that, even without native chipset support, the USB 3.0 standard has made its way to a significant number of motherboards, storage devices and accessories meant to facilitate communication between such products. Thus, hearing that A-Data has developed a new flash drive compatible with such ports is not exactly a surprise.

Truly, there are already many USB 3.0 flash drives, even despite the fact that storage solution developers are careful not to invest too much in a product type that will truly ramp up only in 2011. This is because there are sufficient people willing to buy a drive capable of copying multi-gigabyte files in a matter of seconds. The bliss that this gives consumers aside, speed ensures a higher level of productivity for professionals. This is why A-Data designed its Nobility Series N005 with business users in mind.

The N005 weighs 20.5 grams, measures 90 x 20.5 x 11.5 mm and can reach transfer speeds of 85MB/s. This isn't exactly close to the theoretical maximum speed of 480MB/s, but it still is a 300 percent improvement over what High-Speed USB 2.0 can brag about. As for the design itself, the NAND chips are housed inside an aluminum enclosure coated in silver-gray with a snap-cap design at the rear end.

The A-Data Nobility N005 flash drive will come in capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and will ship with lifetime warranties. Purchasers will be able to take advantage of the company's value-add software, such as UFDtoGO, OStoGO and the latest Norton Internet Security 2010 (60-day trial). All of these are available for free download and will enhance mobility and security. Unfortunately, pricing information has not been disclosed.
