A-DATA, a leading vendor of Flash and DRAM memory, has just announced the introduction of its new portable storage solution, designed to provide computer users with as much as 640GB of storage space inside a rugged chassis. Dubbed the SH93 series, the new drive has been specifically built to meet a number of standards that ultimately provide the end-user with a level of confidence that their data won't be lost when the drive is subject to unfriendly environments or bad treatment.

According to the company, the SH93 hard disk has been designed for road warriors and users who require a portable storage solution that they can rely on every time they are on the road. The drive has been built to meet the waterproof IEC 529 IPX7 standard, which essentially means that it can sustain a 1M waterproof test for 30 minutes. In addition, the SH93 also meets the MIL-STD-810F drop test and the MIL-STD-810 test for a broad range of environmental conditions.

The overall design of the new hard drive includes a rubber enclosure that ensures the end-user of the drive's ruggedness potential, as it resists some shocks if dropped. The enclosure is available in both yellow with black highlights, but also red and black highlights design. There's also a USB cable cord that has been designed to fit the slot that goes around the side of the HDD, enabling a more compact and portable design.

There aren't many details available on the drive's performance specifications, but we are hearing that users will be provided with a choice for 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB of storage capacity, depending on their requirements. Unfortunately, A-DATA didn't deliver any details regarding the availability or pricing of its new SH93 portable hard drive, but we are hoping it will soon go on sale.
