Introducing the fastest-selling operating system in history

Windows Vista is by far the fastest selling operating system worldwide. From February to May, Microsoft has shipped in excess of 40 million Windows Vista licenses. According to the Redmond Company, Vista adoptions is outperforming that of Windows XP by two to one. Just in the fist month on the market in excess of 20 million Vista licenses made their way onto consumer's desktops across the world.

By contrast, Apple revealed that between December 30 2006 and March 31, 2007 it pushed just 1,606,000 Macintosh computers. Take in consideration that each Mac comes with a copy of Mac OS X and you do the math. In this context, it does not come as a surprise that as of April 2007 Windows Vista has grabbed 3.02% of the operating system market. With 40 million licenses sold, Windows Vista now accounts for an installed base larger than that of rival operating systems. But 40 million sold Vista licenses sold in 100 days mean 400,000 per day, 16.700 an hour and finally 4.5 per second. Can you spot Tiger in the dirt? Can you make out leopard waaaaaaaaay in the winter of 2007/2008?

All right, that was uncalled for, but I simply couldn't help it. Since the consumer launch of Windows Vista, the operating system has come to support more than 1.9 million devices. Additionally, in excess of 10,000 hardware and software products have been labeled in the Vista logo program. Microsoft's $6 billion operating system has come a long way and it is right on track for success.

Microsoft has poured an estimated $500 billion into the Wow marketing campaign for Windows Vista, and as such, the operating system has been covered in more than 3,000 broadcast and print stories. The Wow ad campaign was run in no less than 20 countries around the world. And the operating system was simultaneously released into 39,000 stores in 700 countries. If you ask me a sold Vista every 4.5 seconds is a record than can go down easily.
