Today, Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion made available for download a new application for its customers, namely BBM Music, and announced that users will be able to access a wide range of songs via the service attached to it.

For starters, we should note that, although they will be able to enjoy the service for free for a limited period of time, access to songs and to all of the features that BBM Music involves is made via a premium subscription.

The app and service were launched in Canada, the United States and Australia at the moment. Users interested in the premium BBM Music service will have to pay $4.99 USD ($4.99 CDN and $5.99 AUD) for it. However, this is only the beginning, as more regions will enjoy it soon.

When setting up their BBM profile, users will be able to enjoy a number of 50 songs, which can be shared with friends. This means that users can also access fiends' songs, from their devices. With a premium subscription, however, one can download and play far more songs that that.

“To start your BBM Music profile, you can choose up to 50 songs from the millions in our catalog. But, that’s just the beginning! Add more music to your library by adding friends and get access to your BBM friends’ music profile songs,” RIM explains.

“The more BBM friends with BBM Music Premium subscriptions you have, the more songs you can share! And the sharing goes both ways. Your BBM friends with BBM Music Premium subscriptions will have access to your profile music too, and can access it anytime.”

Users can easily create a playlist that includes both their music and the music of their friends, and can also cache their BBM music, or even save it to the MicroSD memory card inside their devices, so that they could access it at all times when offline.

Just as its name suggests, BBM Music is a social music service, and this is exactly what RIM is trying to stress upon. Through it, users can discover music, play songs on their devices, and increase their music collection.

The newly released BBM Music application, available in the BlackBerry App World here, comes with a series of enhancements when compared to the beta flavor, including a “stop” button alongside the “pause” button, and improved music discovery.

As stated above, RIM is set to bring service to more users around the world, and also promised new features for it and for the application available for smartphones.
