Harmonix and MTV Games are announcing that they plan to launch a new add-on featuring 20 songs that will be compatible with both the original Rock Band and Rock Band 2.

The name of the fresh release will be Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock (quite a mouthful) and it will be offered for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 2 versions of the game at the same time, on May 19. The retail price will be 29.99 dollars.

The idea is to give players who do not bother with the downloadable content releases some new songs via a physical medium. Harmonix says that the instrument set ups and variants of the Rock Band games currently available will be compatible with the Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock. Those who buy it can also choose to get the tracks to the hard drive of the consoles from Xbox Live or from the PlayStation Network.

Harmonix is emphasizing the fact that all the songs that players can get are master recordings, which guarantees a superior sound quality and the fact that you can match, note for note, your favorite hits.
