Comparison between the alleged iPod nano 7G and the current-generation model

A source responsible for accurately leaking a bunch of iDevice information in the past is now claiming to have obtained a new picture of the iPod nano 7G containing more evidence of a built-in camera.

As some Softpedia readers will recall, this is the second such leak from Apple.pro, the Taiwanese site that first leaked alleged iPod nano 7G pictures in April, also with a camera hole.

The same green iPod whose chassis showed up in leaked images last month now seems to be almost fully assembled, bearing even more evidence of a built-in camera.

According to the source leaking this information to the Chinese web site - a certain  "Ray" from California - the camera is a low-resolution 1.3 megapixel sensor that’s forcing Apple to ditch the clip needed to fasten the iPod onto clothing.

Apple’s first camera-equipped iPod nano was the fifth-generation model, a redesign of the predecessor that saw the addition of a sensor capable of H.264 VGA video -  640 by 480 pixels, up to 30 frames per second.

It wouldn’t be far fetched too see a camera added to the next line of nanos, though many will also be reluctant to believe Apple will ditch the much needed clip in favor of a camera on a device that measures less than two inches on the diagonal.

The current iPod nano comes in 8GB or 16GB capacities, features an accelerometer, a multi-touch interface, and FM radio with regional settings for Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, and Japan.

The screen features a 240-by-240-pixel resolution (220 pixels per inch) and, judging by the photos leaked by Apple.pro, the 7G nano is not going to have a bigger display.

If the seventh-generation device is to be confirmed, it will most likely happen around September, as Apple generally holds iPod events during the fall period.

However, we would advise readers to take all this information with a grain of salt, at least until other sources corroborate Apple’s plans with the next iPod lineup. After all, the company can’t call on the media this autumn for one iPod only.
