The same thing but with more space in it

Yet another PlayStation 3 version is about to hit the market. The new SKU's hard drive is more than twice the size of the older one but thankfully it's not twice the price as well. The new product is a 250GB edition of the PlayStation 3 Slim, it will become available on November 3 and will cost $349. It's aimed at PS3 users who find themselves in need of more space and it will use the same format of the Slim that sold 1 million units worldwide in just three weeks since its launch. At least this is a guarantee that the PlayStation is still sought after and that people are willing to pay a full price for basically the same console.

"The new 250GB PS3 provides consumers with another compelling hardware option and speaks to the growing consumer appetite for digital content from the PlayStation Network – particularly high-def content that showcases the power of the PS3 system." said Scott Steinberg, VP of product marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. It's true that movies are the ones that take up most of the space of a PlayStation 3, especially with some Blu-Rays taking up almost 8GB.

According to Sony, users have downloaded over 600 million pieces of content from the PlayStation Network, which includes games, movies, and TV shows. New additions meant to arrive on the PSN under the games tab are PixelJunk Shooter, Gravity Crash, and Hustle Kings. Right now, the PSN has 13,300 TV episodes and over 2,300 movies, "one-third of which are available in HD format." The new movies that Sony plans to provide in the near future are Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Star Trek.

With the Blu-Ray and the PlayStation Network, Sony attempted to change the PlayStation from strictly a gaming console into an entertainment system. This was an obvious choice for the company to make in order to try and keep up with the PC. In the beginning, the PC was the main competition for all consoles, but now it seems this uncle of gaming has lost some serious ground to the smaller devices.
