Michelle Wie, a 16-year-old teenager from Hawaii, may have just hit the jackpot in professional golf. She managed to make the cut in the Asian Tour's SK Telecom Open - the men tournament - being the only woman to do so in more than 60 years.
After starting off wonderful in the first round, she managed to score four birdies in the second, to squeeze a 5
under by the end of today's round.
With her score, she managed to maintain a 5-stroke distance behind Open leaders Jeev Singh and Lee Seung-ho.
"I still can't believe I have made the cut. I will be even happier tonight, when it all sinks in", said Wie, who was on the verge of reaching the same performance in November 2005, at the Casino World Open in Japan. She then missed the cut by a single stroke. The last woman who made the cut in the Men's Tour was Babe Zaharias, in 1945, at the L.A. Open.
The enthusiasm of yesterday's performance made Wie dream even more of the near future: "I want to challenge the PGA Tour in the U.S. and make it into the top 10". After she succeeded in finishing with a solid play in the Asian Tour, she is now looking forward to playing in the biggest golfing event in the world, the U.S. Open.
