Apple’s Special Deals section is featuring new Mac refurbs, including two state-of-the-art configurations going for just $999. The Macs in question are a refurbished iMac 20-inch 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and the world’s thinnest notebook – the MacBook Air with a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and hard disk drive (HDD). For those looking to get their hands on Snow Leopard the minute it’s out, the two systems not only pack the necessary hardware to run the new beast, but also qualify for the recently announced ten-dollar upgrade. Read on to learn more.

The refurbished iMac 20-inch 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo features a 20-inch glossy widescreen display, 2GB of memory, a spacey 320GB hard drive, the Apple-standard 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics with 256MB of memory and a built-in iSight Camera. The all-in-one system is suitable for both power and casual users and, right now, makes more sense to buy if you were looking to upgrade for Snow Leopard support.

According to Apple, “Mac OS X Snow Leopard refines the elegant Mac OS X user experience with lots of little touches and performance improvements that will make using your Mac even more enjoyable. It also includes new core technologies designed to tap the power of today’s computer hardware and provide a strong base for innovation.” The company revealed earlier this month that, “If you purchased a qualifying Mac or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009, that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard #for $9.95.” The refurbished iMac 20-inch 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo qualifies for the upgrade.

With reports of Apple’s newest MacBook Air performing slower than its predecessor, the world’s thinnest (refurbished) notebook, priced at $999, packs a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, an 80GB 4200-rpm Parallel ATA hard disk drive, a 13.3-inch glossy widescreen display, 2GB of memory, built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, a built-in iSight Camera and, of course, the thinnest body ever seen on a notebook.

What's in the box, you ask? The refurbished MacBook Air; a 45W MagSafe Power Adapter, AC wall plug, and power cord; a Micro-DVI to DVI adapter; a Micro-DVI to VGA adapter; a display polishing cloth; Install/restore DVDs and printed and electronic documentation. The refurbished MacBook Air 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo will also make good friends with Snow Leopard when it’s released in September, according to Apple.
