You may have recently heard about the availability of a number of new, small-sized, low-power portable computer systems or netbooks. These devices are known for offering the basics in computing, providing their users with everything they need for text editing, Internet browsing and more. With all that, a $99 netbook that is designed for both the business and the education market segments sounds a bit far-fetched.

Nevertheless, this seems to be the case with the Jointech JL7100, which is dangerously similar to ASUS' first Eee PC model, the Eee PC 701. According to the manufacturer's website, the "J-Pro Mini Laptop" is ideal for business, education, entertainment, office and home use, and you will get all of that for a mere $99. The notebook isn't Atom-powered, but even so, it comes with an interesting specifications list, which also includes a Windows operating system, namely the Windows CE 5.0

If you want to know what the $99 tag will buy you, here's a quick look at the device's specifications list. The J-Pro mini laptop is built on a Samsung chipset and provides its users with 64MB of internal storage, which can be upgraded up to 8GB through one of the laptop's three external USB ports. It is equipped with 64MB of RAM memory and its 7-inch LCS display can offer users a maximum resolution of 800 by 480 pixels. It sports a full QWERTY keyboard and a touchpad, while its Li Ion battery is said to provide its users with 4 hours of autonomy, when fully charged.

The mini laptop weighs only 680g and is apparently shockproof. For $99, you will also get a choice in terms of colors, which include Black, White, Pink and Skyblue. The Hong-Kong based vendor product offer also includes two GPS devices. Should you be interested in purchasing one of its products, you will be able to do so via the official website.

Wordpad, viewers for Office stuff,...

That does not seem ideal for many purposes, except M$'s attempt to remain relevant.

eee and many other GNU/LInux miniatures have a full office suite.

CE may do for thin clients but not an ideal general purpose computer. This probably comes with Internet Exploder, too, not a big plus.
