That's what analyst firm ABI Research believes after looking at the market

You'd think that wearable fitness trackers and the couple of (mostly unimpressive in shipments) smartwatches wouldn't amount to much yet, but ABI Research begs to differ.

According to its projections for 2014, shipments of wearable electronics will reach around 90 million.

That will include all the new smart glass products, like Google Glass, as well as augmented reality gaming headsets, healthcare and sports activity trackers, etc.

The new chipsets launched by tech experts will help a lot, because they will allow even OEMs and brands that don't specialize in technology to launch new items of this type.

Also because of that, by the end of the year, smart glasses and smart watches will account for very little of the total market segment.

With all this in mind, it's kind of strange that ABI would think that the next 12 months will be “critical” for the acceptance of wearable electronics. By all accounts, they already have been accepted by the world at large.
