Tarantula specialist Dr. Rogério Bertani has recently published a new study stating that, while investigating the make-up of Central and Eastern Brazil's biodiversity, he came across nine species of arboreal tarantulas previously unknown to science.

Most people display an inborn fear towards such creatures, yet Dr. Rogério Bertani's arboreal tarantulas are quite fun to look at. This is because their bodies are significantly lighter and quite colorful.

As well as this, these species display significantly longer legs. Said researcher explains that all of these features come as a direct result of their having to adapt to life in Brazil's trees.

Thus, the increased surface area at the end of their legs allows them to better grab onto branches and explore their surrounding environment.

“Instead of the seven species formerly known in the region, we now have sixteen,” Dr. Bertani commented with respect to his latest findings.
