$9 Million Funds for Meebo, the Instant Messaging Alternative

Meebo is regarded as the most powerful alternative for the instant messaging networks because it allows you to chat on multiple connections using a simple webpage. Meebo provides you quick access to Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and other Jabber servers so it is quite useful because you can chat on multiple networks without installing several applications. At this time, Meebo is one of the largest communities on the internet because it represents the perfect alternative for students or employees that cannot access messaging clients from school or office.

Because the
service is free for everyone, many users asked themselves how a solution with such popularity can survive without money, advertisements or sponsors. You must know that Meebo received a $3.5 million funding from Sequoia in December 2005, so the service is not quite a waste of time.

"Meebo, a site where users can access all of their instant messaging applications in a single browser window, is announcing a $9 million Series B round of financing from Draper Fisher Jurvetson this evening, adding to the $3.5 million they raised from Sequoia in December 2005. As part of the round, Tim Draper is joining Meebo's board of directors," TechCrunch reported.

"Meebo is a website for instant messaging from absolutely anywhere. Whether you're at home, on campus, at work, or traveling foreign lands, hop over to Meebo on any computer to access all of your buddies (on AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber) and chat with them, no downloads or installs required, for free! Meebo launched in September 2005 and received funding from Sequoia Capital in December 2005. Today, our users exchange over 70 million instant messages daily. We (the Meebo team) are just a fun bunch of people trying to bring IM to the web!" the company describes the service.

I'm not sure if these investments can help Meebo, but the service is continuously growing because you can find some available jobs on the official website for Software Engineer (Front-End), Software Engineer (Back-End), Visual Designer, System Administrator and Information Engineer.
