Indian handset maker Zen Mobile has just announced the upcoming availability of Zen UltraTab A900 tablet. The slate will go on sale for only Rs 7,999 (150 USD or 115 EUR) and will be exclusive to HomeShop18 retailer.

Although the UltraTab A900 is pretty cheap, it offers quite a few strong features, which will probably attract a lot of Android enthusiasts.

In this regard, Zen Mobile’s tablet is powered by Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, and we doubt it will get another major update.

According to Zen Mobile, the slate runs its proprietary user interface on top of stock Android platform, which is called Ultra Tab Sense. The UI features various widgets that have been nicely distributed to form a carousel, and a 3D home screen.

It’s unclear if the UltraTab A900 provides access to Google Play store, but Zen Mobile confirmed the tablet would be shipped pre-loaded with several popular apps and games, such as Nimbuzz, Mig 33, Paytm, nexGTV, Kundli and MapmyIndia.

Hardware-wise, the slate is pretty impressive. UltraTab A900 is equipped with a 1.5 GHz single-core processor and 512MB of RAM. It also packs microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), as well as a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

UltraTab A900 supports both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, but for the latter to work owners will need to attach a 3G dongle via USB.

“After the successful launch of Zen UltraTab A100, we believe the Indian consumers were waiting for a new product in the 9-inch screen space. The new Zen UltraTab A900 is one of the top notch technological innovations from Zen Mobiles and confirms our business principle of taking latest technology to the masses. We have put in a lot of thoughtful features and applications in our new product offering Ultratab - A900,” said Deepesh Gupta, managing director, Zen Mobile.
