Or so says armchair scientist Frank Hoogerbeets

Would-be prophet warns of planetary alignment causing devastating earthquake in California

There's a bit - OK, a lot - of hysteria happening on social media right now, and it's all because of a YouTube video prophesying that a devastating 9.8-magnitude earthquake will strike the US state of California this Thursday, May 28.

The video's maker, a Dutch armchair researcher by the name of Frank Hoogerbeets, insists that the major tremor will happen at about 4 p.m. local time and that it will be the result of a fatidic planetary alignment.

That awkward moment when the planets align in all the wrong ways

There's no getting around this earthquake, Frank Hoogerbeets says. If they're really lucky, guys and gals in California might experience a shake with a magnitude of just 8.8. If not, they'll get the more massive 9.8-magnitude tremble.

In his video, available below, the prophet speaks of a super energized Mercury and an equally agitated Venus - whatever this means - and warns that having these planets in a state of distress will obliterate California.

“California is going to go into the sea, and if that's going to happen, Japan is also going to be battered by tsunamis that you just can't imagine,” Frank Hoogerbeets claims. “It doesn't look good, it just doesn't look good,” he goes on to say.

Mind you, this would-be scientist is so sure that California is in grave danger of being hit by a major earthquake sometime today or maybe tomorrow that he's warned people to be extra cautious and have an escape plan.

Pure nonsense is what this is, actual scientists were quick to respond

Frank Hoogerbeets might think that the arrangement of the planets in our Solar System will send California collapsing into the nearby ocean this May 28, but actual scientists just don't see what all the fuss is about.

Who cares where Venus and Mercury will be positioned or how “energized” they will feel this Thursday? There is no way their location in the sky will cause an earthquake here on our planet, let alone one strong enough to wipe out California.

“Let me be clear: No it won't. It can't. Worse, there's not even an alignment on that date, at least not with the Earth. It's all baloney... It's literally impossible,” stressed Phil Plait of New Scientist, as cited by DM.
