ASUS is rolling out the 9.4.2.28 Firmware update package to its Transformer Prime slates to enable face unlock and to fix GPS dongle. You can wait for the OTA update, or manually download and install the package from us.

The update announcement has been spotted on ASUS’s UK Facebook page, with download links being available online. We initially though that the 9.4.2.28 was only for tablets within the UK, but ASUS is providing downloads for the US and the rest of the world as well.

A small incremental version update, from 9.4.2.21 to 9.4.2.28, and yet with major changes, this release brings one feature that stands out, “Face Unlock,” since it's available on most Android 4.0 devices:

- GPS dongle fix & local notification; - Ethernet UI support to set Ethernet connect policy when screen off; - Add system bar lock settings for showing/hiding system info; - Enable Face Unlock feature; - Support Bluetooth HDP; - 3rd party app upgrade; - Other bug fixes. Users who want to upgrade their firmware can do so manually, or check the version in System Firmware Update menu to see whether the OTA (Over The Air) package has not been received already.
