Officials have confirmed finding a section of one of the planes that hit the Twin Towers in 2001 in New York.

As reported previously, part of a plane's landing gear was found on a narrow alley in Lower Manhattan, between 50 Murray St. and 51 Park Place.

Metro informed that the debris was found on Wednesday, April 25 when building surveyors inspected the area near 51 Park Place.

Sources say that a mosque and a community center are to be built in the “ground zero” area, three blocks away.

The piece could have been part of either American Airlines flight 11 or United Flight 175, which smashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The landing gear fragment has been identified by using a series stamped into it. It has also been engraved with the “Boeing” marking.
