14 DAY TRIAL // When it comes to peripherals, many consumers buy whatever decent mouse and keyboard they lay their eyes on first, but gamers have certain needs and preferences which demand special treatment.
That's where high-end peripherals come in, like the QPAD 5K mouse and, now, the 8K mouse which further enhances the former's capabilities.
The new 8K mouse is a real piece of work, made for right-handed users who expect to be playing games for a long time to come.
Compared to the 5K, it has a new sensor, a more powerful CPU, new mouse software and more memory for storing macros and button profiles.
The QPAD 8K mouse
First off, the device is designed in such a way that you can comfortably hold it with all five fingers of the right hand.
Admittedly, gripping a normal mouse involves all five fingers as well, but the one that QPAD is releasing now has certain ridges for each one, specifically.
As far as the sensor is concerned, it can work at up to 12,000 frames per second and can cover an area of 30 x 30 pixels per frame. This leads to a processing power of 10.8 MB/s.
A 32-bit ARM processor controller makes sure the cursor tracking works as well as possible (8200 true CPI).
Furthermore, the company gave its peripheral an internal lighting system that lets you choose 16.8 million color variations (an RGB LED light setup).
Finally, no drivers are needed for the mouse to store button and sensitivity settings. The 128 kb onboards storage can do that just fine. Incidentally, this means you can easily take the mouse with you to a LAN party and not worry about being off your game because of different key settings.
And with both the left and right buttons rated for 20 million clicks (Omron switches to thank for that), you can be sure this peripheral will last for quite a while.
Availability and pricing
QPAD should have the 8K mouse up for sale by the end of the month (February 2015) for the price of €79 / $90.
