Research firm Newzoo has put out a new report which shows that 84 percent of the United States gamers who are interested in science fiction themed MMOs are more interested in playing free-to-play games than in paying for subscription products.

The report says that there are 14 million players who are engaged with games in the genre, which is about 39 percent of the overall number of players in the United States who are into MMOs.

68% of them never play a subscription based game.

The popular free-to-play titles that players are most interested in include: S4 League, Anarchy Online, RF Online and Planet Calypso.

The company refused to comment on the prospects for Star Wars: The Old Republic, with the CEO stating, “You will not catch me making any predictions about Star Wars: The Old Republic.”

He believes that Electronic Arts might be able to convince some free-to-play gamers to adopt the subscription model but it’s not clear how many of them will stick around for the long term.
