We've seen a fair number of high-end, large format televisions with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, but the technology is being adapted for things besides entertainment, as the latest product from ViewSonic will show you.

The product in question is none other than the CDE8451-TL 84-inch interactive large-format professional display.

Featuring a 6-point multitouch system driven by hardware based on a dual-core ARM processor, the display is meant for government, science, medical and corporate sectors.

It will allow two or three people to work on projects together, you see, even graphics design and the like, whether it be for videos or games.

Sure, it's a bit strange that ViewSonic didn't go all the way and include 10-point touch instead of 6-point, but it's still enough for collaborative interaction.

A good thing that, because an 84-inch screen with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, UHD as it were (ultra high definition, or 4K), can provide a big and broad perspective. Needless to say, LED technology is used for the backlight.

The dual-core ARM processor we have mentioned before has 8 GB of NAND Flash storage space to handle, on which the Android 4.2 operating system is installed.

This means you'll be able to load a presentation of a video project on the TV's memory through USB, and go from there.

You can even download applications from the Google Play store, or the websites of any businesses or educational environments you might be interested in.

You can even edit documents or write on images in real time, using your fingertips or a stylus. Moreover, you can employ the ViewSonic NMP-708 slot-in PC to convert the CDE8451-TL into a dual OS interactive large format display.

You don't need the extra firepower, but if you intend to use the 84-inch LCD for some sort of super-complicated 3D CAD blueprint that the tablet-like hardware just can't cope with, the option is there: an Intel i5 processor and an NVIDIA GPU run Windows 8 on the ViewSonic NMP-708 mini PC.

You'll need to buy the system (well, PC Network Media Player) separately though, which might prove troublesome considering that the price of the LCD alone is $19,000 / €19,000. Then again, compared to that sum, the $1,200 / €1,200 of the NMP-708 might seem negligible.

"By combining 4K resolution with interactive touch technology, two great innovations in the display market, the CDE8451-TL offers a best-in-class solution to customers that want high-performance displays," said Gene Ornstead, director of product marketing at ViewSonic Corp.

"With its tempered glass overlay, scratch-resistant surface and anti-glare treatment, the CDE8451-TL is the ideal display for resolution critical applications like graphic imaging, mapping, wayfinding, education or corporate boardrooms."
