It actually overtook Sony's product, which isn't shipping despite earlier pre-orders

Despite 4K not being an actual standard at the time the first displays with that resolution appeared, monitor and HDTV makers have been very proactive, LG in particular.

Normally, we would be harping about Sony's Bravia KD-84X 900 rights about now. The 84-inch 4K TV was, after all, previewed at IFA 2012 and formally introduced last month (September 2012).

Sony was even the first to start accepting pre-orders for this type of large, 3D-capable, Ultra High-Definition display.

LG is the one getting first dibs on the market though. The company is already shipping its 84LM9600, with its native resolution of 3,840 x 2,160. So far, it is available in Southern California, through a collaboration with Video & Audio Center.

Beyond the huge screen size and the resolution, there isn't anything too shocking about the XBR-84X900.

The price of the 84-inch 4K TV is $19,999 or $15,511-19,999.
