Rumors coming from INTEL have suggested that a new Celeron line will emerge from the same Core architecture that powers actual INTEL CPUs. This is good
but rather plain news, since it was an expected move coming from them. As a reminder, INTEL has recently announced that they have removed Pentium 1000 series from their roadmaps. As a result, INTEL had no single core products included in their roadmaps, so it was quite normal the fact that they were planning to replace 1000 series with another similar CPU line.
Celeron 400 series is actually comparable to Pentium 1000, since it has the same FSB and is based upon the same Core Solo architecture. It is unclear at the moment whether it will support 512KB or 1MB of level 2 cache, but the final specifications are due to come out soon. Two processors will appear: Celeron 430 @ 1.8 GHz and Celeron 440 @ 2GHz. VT, EIST, ViiV and vPRO INTEL proprietary technologies will not be supported by these CPUs.
With the beginning of 2007, older Netburst CPUs will start to phase out until they will completely disappear from the market, with July 2007 being the projected date when the new Celerons will reach the stores.
