On its way to 1,000,000

HTC managed to sell 800,000 units of their Touch smartphone up to this point, after the handset was released in Europe and Asia. The high units' number was reached only three months after the handset's market hit.

HTC Touch has been considered by many people as the smartphone most worthy of the "iPhone killer" title, from all those that make the best of touchscreen performances. The producer seems to be pretty happy with the number of such devices that it has managed to sell. It is a great one, indeed, but a device that has been compared to Apple's phone for so long will also have to stand comparison when it comes to sales numbers.

The iPhone managed to reach the number of one million sold units at the beginning of September, 74 days after its release. Of course, a role was played by a major price cut of USD 200 just a few days before reaching the number, but it is an impressive performance nonetheless. HTC has managed to reach only 800,000 after two more weeks, but they still have a long way to go until matching Apple and reaching the six digit number.

There are no reasons for HTC to be disappointed, as the company has recently released the HTC Touch Dual, a device highly similar to the original Touch phone. Sales numbers will be split between these two and it will be more difficult for the device to match the iPhone's number. This must also stand as a main reason for their choice of making an official count at 800,000, as it might take longer than expected to hit 1,000,000.

This has proved to be a great year for HTC, as its Touch phone opened the road for a large number of other highly evolved devices. This brought the company under the spotlights, proving just how high its handset development skills are.
