Uncharted developer Naughty Dog confirms that a whopping 80% of current PS4 owners have not played a game from the series, largely because there are many who did not have a PS3 in the previous console generation.

The Uncharted saga delivered some great experiences across the PS3 and PS Vita platforms throughout the years, and tens of millions of people have bought the action-adventure games. Given the popularity of the series, developer Naughty Dog is currently busy with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which is set to debut in March on PS4.

Until then, the studio is working with Bluepoint on Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which arrives tomorrow, October 9, on the PS4, and includes all three main games in the series.

Most PS4 owners haven't played an Uncharted game, apparently

Given the popularity of the Uncharted saga on PS3 and the great sales of the PS4, some people have wondered just how big the audience for The Nathan Drake Collection actually is.

According to Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli, who talks with MCV, the actual market is huge. Apparently, some in-depth research was done by the studio and Sony, and the results were surprising, to say the least - around 80% of PS4 owners did not play an Uncharted game.

"It's pretty massive," he says, in regards to the potential audience. "We did a lot of research and discovered that about 80 per cent of the people that own a PS4 have never played Uncharted, period. That was one of the reasons why we thought remastering it would be a good idea. The other reason is we decided we wanted to do it; especially when we got The Last of Us Remastered done, we thought 'Oh man, this would be cool if we could go back.'"

Sony mentioned some time ago that a lot of PS4 owners did not own a PS3 in the past and were completely new to console gaming. As such, the figures from Naughty Dog shouldn't be that surprising. Even so, the proportion shows that lots of different remastered or remade versions of older games might appear, given the big audience.
