Android is one of the most versatile and customizable mobile operating systems out there, and you may think you don’t need to root your phone, but once you have done this, a whole new world of possibilities opens up before you.

Most people fear rooting is risky. On top of that, there's also the concern that performing this operation will void the device’s warranty. However, if you’re able to move past these fears, you’re in for a lot of good things.

If you want to really unlock the potential of your device, control everything, back up everything, customize everything, and do all sorts of things including installing custom ROMs and get Android Lollipop ahead of everyone else, rooting is the way to go.

So nowadays, more and more handset owners are recognizing rooting as an important part of their mobile routine. A recent survey conducted by Tancent in China proves exactly this point, as reported by China Internet Watch.

Rooting is becoming more and more popular

According to the information provided by the study, 80% of Chinese smartphone users rooted their smartphones in 2014. Just 13.60% of the respondents never tried rooting, and 6% didn’t know what the term really referred to.

The rising of the Android open source system in China has prompted an increase in popularity for the rooting process in the country. When asked about the reasons why they have taken up rooting, 27% of the respondents said they wanted to update to a new version.

26.6% of the participants explained they wanted to experience other systems, while 16.8% said the previous system wasn't smooth enough.

Other reasons included the fact that many pre-installed apps (also known as bloatware) were found to be useless, dissatisfaction with previous interfaces, and battery life problems.

One can do a lot of things to speed up the performance of the phone or boost battery life without rooting, but with root, even more power is awarded.

For example, certain apps allow you to overclock the handset to achieve better performance, or underclock it, which results in better battery life. Some apps will let you hibernate the applications you are not using, which is perfect for stuff that you need to just run in the background.

These are just a few reasons mentioned by people to justify their decision to root their handsets, as it's quite evident in the study. So, have you ever rooted your Android device?
