The 80 Plus rating system is the means by which one may figure out how efficient a PSU is, and Scythe proudly announced that two of its products, the Chouriki 2 series models of 650W to be exact, have just earned 80 Plus Gold rating.

Though not an overly important feature until several years ago, energy efficiency has become a prime concern for hardware makers when creating any new sort of component.

For power supplies, power efficiency is even more important, as is shown by the fact that there is a whole system of classification meant to establish a product's worth in this area.

Known as the 80 Plus Certification, this system differentiates between multiple ratings, depending on the percentage of efficiency.

80 Plus Gold rating is granted to a PSU when its efficiency is of over 87 percent, and Scythe proudly announced that two of its products have earned this badge.

The products in question are the Chouriki 2 modular and non-modular models with output of 650W.

These two were unleashed back in July, when they were only granted 80 Plus Silver rating, but they have now been certified to be compliant with the standard immediately above that.

The PSUs measure 150 × 160 × 86 mm and boast Overcurrent protection (OCP), Overvoltage Protection (OVP), Overpower (Overload), Short Circuit protection (SCP) and Overtemperature Protection (OTP).

They also utilize 135mm Kama Flex fans with a maximum rotary speed of 1,150 RPM (rotations per minute) and the S-FDB bearing, which gives them a MTBF of 120,000 hours.

Scythe made a point of letting its consumers know that, even though the rating was increased, the price of the Chouriki PSUs would stay the same.

This means that the standard version is selling for 91.50 Euro ($121), whereas the modular one is priced at 99 Euro ($132).
