An 8-year-old boy named Congcong Tai loves his pet turtle so much that, not too long ago, he hid it in his undies and tried to smuggle it past airport officials just to make sure that he would not have to part with it.

According to Metro, the kid and the turtle became friends over the summer, while the boy was living with his grandparents. When the time came for Congcong Tai to go back home to his parents, he was told that he was not to take the turtle with him.

The 8-year-old refused to say goodbye to his beloved pet, took matters into his own hands, and hid the reptile in his undies. Unfortunately, things did not go quite as he had hoped and planned.

Thus, officials at China's Baiyun International Airport figured out that something was wrong, and soon enough found that the 8-year-old child was trying to sneak an undocumented passenger on board.

“When the customs officials noticed he was trying to hide something, he tried to cover it up, and when his grandma asked him what he was hiding he tried to cover it up even more,” explained a spokesperson for the Baiyun International Airport in China's Guangdong province.

Luckily, airport officials were deeply touched by the boy's story, and so were Congcong Tai's grandparents. Hence, the 8-year-old was eventually given permission to take the turtle home to his parents.
