Will sell alongside the 9.7-inc E-ink-based model

Tablets may have grabbed most of the spotlight at this year's Computex expo in Taipei, but a number of other gadgets still managed to shine through. E-readers, as one of the more rapidly growing product categories, had more than a few representatives eager to show off their worth. Acer's LumiRead is one example, though it definitely wasn't the only one of its kind on site. In fact, quite a number of such devices were showcased, and while most didn't exactly bring anything new to the table, some still managed to stand out.

One of these less overlookable devices was developed by Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS). Of course, this product's allure somewhat paled in front of the 10-inch Windows 7 tablet PC, the AiO systems, high-end motherboards, notebooks and ultrathins that its maker brought along. Still, the e-book reader, with a 9.7-inch E-Ink screen, though it had rather 'common' features, succeeded in turning some heads thanks to its integration of a WiMAX module. Other specifications include WiFi support and a Marvell processor.

Unfortunately, ECS chose to join its peers in their habit of not offering much, if any, information on pricing and availability. On the other hand, a certain other project has become apparent. According to a report published by Digitimes, the company has more than just this model in store. In fact, it is already preparing an 8-inch version meant to approach a wider consumer base. No details were given on the build, but it can be assumed that specifications will be mostly, if not completely, identical to those of the 9.7-inch prototype.

The plans for making this 8-inch electronic supposedly arose as a result of demand from clients in the United States or Europe, though China-based e-book reader markets may also place orders. The estimated time of arrival is not completely clear, but September is, at present, the targeted month.
