With the October 22nd general availability of Windows 7 approaching fast, all eyes turn to Microsoft, as the Redmond company is expected to debut its main marketing effort designed to push the product. However, even in the pre-launch season, Microsoft has not been shy of running various satellite marketing efforts, promotions and special offerings set up to get customers talking about the successor of Windows Vista. For its latest
Windows 7 publicity stunt, the Redmond company decided to offer no less than 777 free copies of Windows 7 to the residents of Zevenhuizen in The Netherlands.

It is not by coincidence that Microsoft has decided to choose the residents of Zevenhuizen. According to Bink, Zevenhuizen means Seven Houses. Taking into consideration the signs that Microsoft has been displaying ahead of the official Windows 7 launch, the company has been indicating a predilection to use the number 7 in its marketing efforts. Perhaps it is also a hint that more marketing offerings built around 7 as a concept are on the way.

“Windows 7 is the first in Zevenhuizen. Windows comes to Zevenhuizen (Gemeente Leek, Groningen). 777 free with Windows 7 packages. Because obviously, nobody has more right to use the first inhabitants of Zevenhuizen. Therefore we offer you free. Would you like one of the first in the Netherlands in Windows 7? Please sign up,” reads an excerpt from the official website for the promotion, translated via Google Translate.

Users who want to grab a free copy of Windows 7 Home Premium can head over to the website in question and sign up. Of course, they also need to be living in Zevenhuizen in order to take advantage of the deal. Customers can either have Microsoft install Windows 7 at their homes, receive the Windows 7 package collection or send in their laptops for the deployment process.

I didn't knew we here in the Netherlands would be the very first to have the Windows 7 packages. Funny to read this on an international site. Zevenhuizen is just half an hour from my place with a car.

Hi Dutchman,

Also with the business rollout of Windows 7 the Netherlands is one of the very first countries with companies running windows 7 in business environments. Some big companies are already complete running on Windows 7.
