Last week, an elderly man in California, US, beat up a bear that made the mistake of coming too close to his home in Meadow Vista, Placer County.

The man, identified as 73-year-old Carl Moore, says he wasn't in the least frightened when he saw the bear trying to climb over the gate leading to his property.

He simply ran up to the wild animal, and after first yelling at it, he punched it in the face. The incident was witnessed by one of the man's neighbors.

The unlucky bear took quite a beating

Apparently, 73-year-old Carl Moore all but made the bear's head spin. Rather than fight back, the animal turned around and darted for the forested area from whence it came.

“The man or beast that I run from ain't been born, and his momma's already dead,” the man said in a statement, as cited by People Pets. “Boom, I hit him good,” he added.

Mind you, now don't go thinking that bears have gotten soft. As it turns out, Carl Moore has a long history of using his fists to get a job done.

He is a retired boxer, and in his younger years, he also served in the US Marine Corps and worked as a bouncer at bars in Texas. Hence the fact that nothing frightens him.

The man attacked the bear to protect his dogs

Word has it that Carl Moore attacked the bear not because he was worried about his own safety, but because the animal was upsetting his pet Chihuahua, Lacy.

When Carl Moore came to see what was bothering the pooch, he figured out what the problem was and did not hesitate to use his experience as a fighter to take care of the business.

The 73-year-old says that, should the bear return to his property, he will call the police and have them deal with it rather than shoot the animal himself.
