Adoption of the latest version of iOS is on the rise

It’s not a secret that the majority of Apple customers upgrade to the latest version of the available software shortly after the public release, and new statistics provided by the company show that this is the case with iOS 9 as well.

Apple says that, as of November 30, 70 percent of iPhones and iPads are already running iOS 9, while only 22 percent of these devices are still on iOS 8. The percentage is even smaller in the case of older versions of the operating system, with only 8 percent of phones and tablets manufactured by Apple currently powered by such a release.

iOS 9 was released to users on September 16, after being publicly announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8 this year. The first beta was offered to developers during the same event, and the Beta Software Program still continues these days with version 9.2.

The latest version

At this point, iOS 9 has already reached 9.1 in stable form, with this latest version released on October 21 providing improvements for the new devices launched by Apple, including the iPad Pro, the Apple Pencil (which comes as an accessory for the iPad Pro but still has its own software), and the fourth-generation Apple TV.

iOS 9 is also the default operating system version of new iPhones, among which the 6s and the 6s Plus, but it’s also available for older models, which may or may not have a very smooth experience after the update.

For example, as far as iPhone models are concerned, versions 4S and newer are all getting the update to iOS 9, while iPad 2 and newer are also allowed to install iOS 9. Performance, however, is not quite the best right now, with significant lag caused here and there because of the outdated hardware.
