The Windows Insider program is growing fast

Windows 10 is already alive and kicking and so is the Windows Insider program, the effort that Redmond launched in October 2014 to let users across the world help Microsoft develop and improve the new operating system.

The Insider program has grown significantly since its debut last year and Microsoft was very pleased with users’ contribution to the development process, especially because the company received tons of feedback and bug reports that in the end made Windows 10 faster, more stable, and capable of better tackling everyone’s needs.

In the press conference today at IFA 2015, Microsoft’s executives revealed that there are 7 million active testers for Windows 10, which is the living proof that the program is growing despite the fact that the operating system is already on the market in stable form.

Increased focus on Windows 10 Mobile preview

It’s worth mentioning, however, that these figures include both PC and mobile testers, but the first clearly has more users than the latter.

On the other hand, now that Windows 10 for PCs is already available in RTM form, Microsoft can finally switch the focus to the smartphone sibling and release improvements and new builds at a much faster pace.

The company has already promised to do that, but until now, faster releases are yet to take place, with the Windows development team needing more time to fix some of the issues discovered in the latest builds.

Windows 10 Mobile is projected to launch next month and Microsoft is expected to accelerate the release cadence at the very last minute, as it speeds up work on bug hunting. The next few weeks are likely to be busier than ever for Windows 10 Mobile testers, so expect more builds, patches, and improvements ahead of the big launch of the operating system that should take place in mid-October.
