A new alpha version has just been released for 7-Zip, appending new capabilities to the compression tool. Apart from this, the developer also worked on improving the speed for opening large archives and to do away with some bugs.

As for the new abilities, 7-Zip 9.26 alpha is able to update WIM archives and the File Manager can move files to archives. The command line build of the application features benefits from a new command, “rn”, which renames the files in the archive.

A fresh suite of switches extends the functionality of command line 7-Zip: “-sdel” deletes files after including to archive, “-sns” can be used to store NTFS alternate streams and “-sni” enables storing NT security information for files.

You can find the full changes on this page. 7-Zip is available for download here.
