Police apprehended 37-year-old Ruben Sanabria almost by mistake, after he was seen hopping the turnstile at the Manhattan subway, to avoid paying the fare. He is now going to jail for 7 years.

As the New York Post reports, Sanabria will also be on probation for 3 and a half years more, after he’s done serving time for criminal possession of a weapon.

Indeed, Sanabria tried to avoid paying the subway fare but somehow forgot he was carrying a loaded weapon on his person.

“Ruben Sanabria, 37, was caught with a loaded .40-caliber Smith & Wesson. Sanabria was also carrying extra bullets and a holster. He pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree,” the NY Post says.

Of the maximum of 15 years possible on the charge, Sanabria was sentenced to 10, of which only 7 he will spend locked up.
