7-Year-Old Kid Drives Family Car, Media Blames GTA

Kids grow up so fast these days, but it seems that they also pick up almost everything they see around them. Such is the case with 7-year-old Weber County resident Preston Scarbrough, who took his family's car on a leisurely Sunday drive.

Of course, his skills weren't that up to par, as he blew through a few stop signs and narrowly missed a pedestrian crossing the street. Eventually he was stopped by a Utah police officer, Captain Klint Anderson. The media was soon to pick up on the story, with Fox News being one of the first outlets to interview the officer.

The exchange in words was a very interesting one, as the reporter asked just how the kid learned to drive. The officer replied that: “Well, we’re not exactly sure except that his father has grounded him from one of his video games which involves operating vehicles so…” At this point, the reporter immediately inquired whether or not Grand Theft Auto was the title in question. The officer admitted that he didn't ask the parents of the child about it: “I have no idea. I didn’t ask the father what game it was but some of those video games are pretty realistic.”

Last Sunday morning, a Utah police officer chased a car that blew through stop signs and narrowly missed a pedestrian. Imagine the pursuing cop’s surprise when the car came to a stop and out popped a 7-year-old boy. 

After this piece of news broke out, the family of the child went on NBC's Today Show in order to tell the whole country just what had happened. The father of the kid even admitted that when he heard police sirens outside, he though they were coming from his boy's video games. When asked just how he learned to drive, small Preston said that he just watched his mom and sister, picking up their moves.

Hopefully we'll stop hearing about such news in the future and parents will keep a more vigilant eye on their offspring. Seeing as how the boy was just 7, it's hard to think that his parents would let him play Grand Theft Auto though.
