Microsoft’s latest Windows client is also the fastest selling operating system in history, having passed the 100 million sold licenses mark in the first six months after launch. Still, there are more interesting statistics to be shared. At Computex in Taipei, Taiwan on June 1st, Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president, Original Equipment Manufacturer Division, revealed that Microsoft had been selling 7 copies of Windows 7 per second since the October 22nd 2009 general availability deadline. Albeit this is nothing more than a coincidence, it still is a very interesting statistics, especially seeing as the Redmond company has continually put together marketing stunts around the number 7 to promote Windows 7.

” There's been over 100 million licenses or PCs sold with Windows 7 since the launch. So far, there's been about seven licenses sold every second since the launch occurred. So, we're seeing phenomenal growth in terms of the PC ecosystem. And the nice thing is, we're seeing more and more variety of types of PCs that are coming out. And I'll come back around to that as we go through,” Guggenheimer stated.

While on stage at Computex, Guggenheimer underlined that the PC industry had seen a growth of 25% in the first quarter of 2010. Microsoft’s Corporate VP did point out that there were still a lot of questions about the global economy, but underlined that the PC and hardware businesses had grown stronger compared to the past year. He even pointed out that Microsoft was confident about the coming year.

“But the good news there is, we see that momentum continuing. The nice thing is, on one hand, it's good to see the growth of PCs, it's good to see the positive reaction to Windows 7 and where we're going; but the best part is, consumer satisfaction has been very high. Over 94 percent of the users of Windows 7 are satisfied or very satisfied with the product. So, we've been able to come into a point in time where the hardware market has been taking off a little bit faster than was predicted a year ago. We've got a good collective offering between our hardware and software together. And we have some good momentum heading into the next year,” Guggenheimer revealed.
