A total of 7 individuals have been arrested and charged for allegedly counterfeiting Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Breeze cards, RDIF smart cards used for the Atlanta public transport system.

According to Creative Loafing Atlanta, the suspects, aged between 22 and 46, found a way to bypass the card’s security features and increase its value. They’ve been identified after police reviewed security footage and noticed one man purchasing multiple cards on two separate occasions in November.

Five of the suspects were arrested on December 10 and charged with card fraud and racketeering. Two others were charged with racketeering.

The investigation is ongoing, but MARTA representatives are confident that no personal information has been compromised.

Breeze cards have been introduced in 2006. However, there have been many concerns regarding the security of the system.
