The tablet market is slowly starting to become over-saturated, so device makers are forced to innovate consistently in order to become a noticeable presence on the market.

Sharp, a company known for its panels, certainly seems to be pushing towards this direction. At CES 2014, they showcased their new and innovative Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) display.

The new technology is supposed to provide ultra-low power consumption, excellent image quality and color and deliver clear and crisp images even in extreme conditions like low temperatures. On top of that, the system inside the panels will be capable of detecting when less color is needed, reducing power levels.

The MEMS display offers a superior backlighting system because light does not go through any color filters, which translates into users being able to use the device incorporating the screen in broad daylight without a problem.

In a recent interview DigitalVersus did with a company official, Sharp admitted the MEMS display (with IGZO) will be integrated into 7-inch tablets before summer comes to an end. So the world's first tablet with MEMS is just around the corner.
