LaCie introduced today its latest NAS (network attached storage) system, the 5big Network, compatible with both Macs and PCs. Up to 7.5TB of storage capacity can be placed inside the system, a complete five-bay RAID solution designed to fulfill the needs of small and medium workgroups or offices that are looking for large storage and backup capacity, improved performance and advanced security. Each of the five Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drive trays is lockable and removable.
The new 5big Network has been designed to fit any modern professional office. It features a sleek and durable aluminum tower built to save space due to a stackable design. Since the drive trays are removable, this versatile hot-swap feature allows for continuous usage even if a hard disk fails. Also, to ensure more flexibility and superior data protection, the LaCie NAS supports seven RAID modes, including RAID 5, RAID 5+Spare, RAID 6, RAID 10 and RAID 0.
The 5big Network features a browser-based access and management system which allows administrators to fast and easy set it up, while users are enabled to share, store, and access data without the need of a central server. The Active Directory Support (ADS) which is included in the solution allows the system to easily integrate into Windows-based networks. It also features a Wake-on-LAN function more than useful for IT managers.
The cooling system of the new NAS is 37 percent quieter than the on featured by the previous LaCie four-disk RAID towers, although there is a fifth drive added to the solution. Also, 5big Network uses 25 percent less energy than previous solutions. Coming with embedded technology, superior design and features developed for users' benefit, the new LaCie 5big Network system proves to be an ideal storage solution for any workgroup.
The new NAS is already available at a $1,899 price tag on
LaCie's site, along with
