This October 15, at 8:12 a.m. local time, a major earthquake hit the southern Philippines. The US Geological Survey first said that the shake's magnitude was one of 7.2. Later, it downgraded it to 7.1.

The earthquake epicenter was located under Bohol Island, at a depth of about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles). According to RT, the shake was followed by a total of seven aftershocks, whose magnitude ranged between 5.4 and 4.6.

The same source tells us that, despite the fact that this earthquake was a strong one, the Pacific Tsunami has not yet issued any tsunami warnings for the Pacific Ocean.

By the looks of it, the earthquake caused several buildings and roofs to collapse. At least 20 people are believed to have lost their lives, but detailed information concerning the total number of victims and the damage caused by this shake is still lacking.

Churches dating back to the Spanish colonial period are said to have also been damaged during this earthquake.
