Only yesterday, authorities in Jakarta, Indonesia went public with the news that, over the past two weeks, they had been looking after a total of 687 pig-nosed turtles that were found inside a package seized at the Soekarno-Hatta airport.

Information shared with the public says that, when they were first found, the turtles were less than a month old.

Still, it appears that they are in good health, which is why plans are now being made to return them to their home in Papua.

Since the package in which these endangered turtles were found had a false address on it, authorities were unable to make any arrests or at least figure out who was planning on smuggling these turtles from Papua to other parts of the world, The Inquisitr reports.

The authorities who helped rescue these turtles are quite convinced that, all things considered, the people who tried to smuggle them past airport security wished to sell them as pets in either Europe or Asia.
