Out-of-process plug-in (OOPP) architecture available across Windows and Mac

A 64-bit Opera for Windows and Mac has been in the works for some time. Today, Opera Labs development team released the 64-bit snapshot for Opera 12.00 alpha (build 1211).

It is a product still in development, so some loose ends do exist, such as older versions of Flash not working properly with the Windows version, or web fonts not working on the Mac release.

Also, Xt-based plugins (e.g. VLC, Adobe Reader) are not supported by the Linux/Free BSD build.

However, the 64-bit snapshots of Opera allow the browser more generous memory allocation and performance improvements in some specific areas.

Directly connected with the release of the 64-bit Opera is the release of out-of-process plug-ins (OOPP). This allows the web browser to continue functioning properly even if a plug-in crashes, because they have their own process to crash instead.
