Microsoft is expanding a special offering allowing students to buy cheap copies of Windows 7, to no less than 11 markets worldwide.

Windows 7 Student Discount offerings have been around for a while, but now students in 11 countries, most of which in Europe, can take advantage of the discounts to grab upgrade licenses of Windows 7 Professional for roughly $64.95, which is what US students have to pay.

As of the start of November, the Windows 7 Student Discount has gone live, or is about to be offered in Spain, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, New Zealand and Taiwan.

“The Windows 7 Student Offer gives college and university students the opportunity to purchase an upgrade edition of Windows 7 Professional for a significant discount,” Microsoft’s Ashley Brown said.

“Students can choose to download either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7, but make sure you check which version is supported on your PC before downloading.”

I must underline the fact that Microsoft did not specify what it will charge students around the world for their upgrade licenses of Windows 7 Professional. However, $64.95 is the price at which it is available to US students.

Users might remember that when the Redmond company started offering the Windows 7 Student Discount deals, a license of the operating system came with a price tag of approximately $30. It appears that this detail has changed.

“Students qualify for this offer if they have a valid e-mail address through a qualifying education institution and a PC that is currently running a genuine copy of Windows XP or Windows Vista. You can see if your PC is capable of running Windows 7 by running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor,” Brown added.

“If you’re ready to buy, the links below will take you to your country-specific site to buy. But don’t wait – this offer is only available for a limited time (varies by country).”
