A man from Thailand, aged 61, was sentenced to 20 year in prison on four counts after a Criminal Court found him guilty of committing cybercrimes and offending a state authority.

Ampon Tangnoppakul, also known as Uncle SMS was accused of sending four text messages with offensive content to the personal secretary of Abhisit Vejjajiva, who at the time was the prime minister of the country.

To defend himself against the accusations of cybercriminal activity and lese majeste, the crime of offense brought against the state or a sovereign, the suspect claimed he didn’t own the SIM card used to send the messages, Cyberwarnews reports.

As it turns out, the inquiries in this case revealed that the SIM card’s serial number matched his phone serial number and that’s how he was connected to the crime.
