Appropriately labeled Thunderbolt Software Update, this hefty 60 megabyte installer package is tasked with providing compatibility with the new Thunderbolt Display introduced this summer. Apple’s official description follows below.
About Thunderbolt Software Update
This update provides support for the Apple Thunderbolt Display and bug fixes for Thunderbolt device compatibility.
It is to be applied on systems running OS X Lion 10.7.1 or later and supports several languages, including Deutsch, English, Français, 日本語, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português Brasileiro, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Apple unveiled the new Thunderbolt Display in July, touting it as the world’s first display with Thunderbolt I/O technology.
The Mac maker said it would become the ultimate docking station for Mac notebooks.
It allows users to connect a Thunderbolt-enabled MacBook Pro or MacBook Air and access 2560 by 1440 pixels of LCD goodness, an HD FaceTime camera, and the speakers, as well as the Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 800, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt ports.
“With built-in Thunderbolt technology — the fastest, most flexible I/O ever — the new Apple Thunderbolt Display can do things other displays simply can’t,” says Apple.
“Of course, it delivers a brilliant viewing experience. But connect it to any Thunderbolt-enabled Mac and it becomes a plug-and-play hub for everything you do,” the company adds.
The new display features a thin aluminum and glass enclosure giving it an elegant look and feel. It also ships with a MagSafe connector that charges your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air while you work with it.
