With many others undoubtedly going unreported

There are 600 instances of bent iPhone 6 Pluses reported in the wild so far, according to oneofthenine.com, a site specifically rigged so that customers can upload their photos and their stories.

Ryan Condon, the user who uploaded the first image in the gallery embedded in this article (above, as well as below at the very bottom), is just one of 600 users who decided to let the world know what happened to his brand new iPhone 6 Plus, a device that runs in the hundreds of dollars and can cost as much as $1,000 (€800) in its highest-specced configuration.

“Not what I was expecting to find when I removed my case today,” writes Condon. “Genius Bar appointment tomorrow.”

“This mfer actually does bend,” writes another upset user, “back to the store tomorrow, for serious.”

Widespread or just negligence?

It doesn’t take a mathematician to assess whether or not Apple has a problem on its hands. All you need to know is that the company has so far shipped millions of units of these babies. By this metric, 600 devices is like a pore on your skin. Completely irrelevant and quite possibly the exact number of negligent iPhone 6 owners in the wild.

If you look carefully through the descriptions, you’ll find that almost no one is able to produce a convincing story (i.e. whether the phone warped in otherwise normal usage scenarios). Everyone pretty much avoids saying what happened altogether, but there are some instances where the owners do make a compelling case for how their device ended up bent.

Not everyone is a “reporter”

Another thing worth considering is the fact that some people don’t feel the urge to just hop on the Internet and post pictures or write about their bent iPhone 6 Plus. By the way, according to one user on oneofthenine.com, even the smaller (4.7-inch) iPhone 6 bends. Then again, so does a World War II tank if you drop Miley Cyrus and her wrecking ball on it.

Point is, anything shaped like an iPhone will bend if enough pressure is added. The real discussion is “how” these phones ended up this way, not that it happened and boy-are-we-upset-with-Apple-now.

How did yours bend?

Let’s use this opportunity to get some actual bendgate stories out in the open. Use the comments below to tell the world how yours bent and if you were able to exchange it for a new one at the Apple store.

There are also some reports about scratched screens, which we’re also very skeptical about. Skim through the related links below if you’re still on the fence trying to decide whether or not to get yourself an iPhone 6.

My 2 cents? These phones are perfectly usable, and if you do buy one that doesn’t meet your stringent demands, then Apple will gladly take it off your hands and give you a full refund if you go back with it in under 30 days.
