Two days after the PSP was launched in the United States, the much awaited mobile gaming console had already had 500,000 units sold, surpassing in this way the popularity of the Nintendo DS console that required 11 days to achieve the same performance on the European market.

Although Sony's results may look surprising, the press and some leaders of the Japanese company were disappointed by the figures, which actually represent a half of the stocks supplied by Sony.

On the American market, PSP had a better start than Nintendo DS, launched in November last year, when it took 2 weeks to sell half a million consoles. Sony's success is even more impressive since the price of the console is higher than the price of the Nintendo DS. The PSP is distributed in the United States in the Value Pack formula, a model that includes the console, a 32 MB Memory Stick card and a pair of headsets. The price of this package is 249,99 USD.

In the first week, PSP's sales generated 150 million dollars income, an information that tells us that approximately 600,000 units have been sold. In other words, after the first wave of success that lasted for two days, the sales decreased, and that is why Sony didn't make any comments about the sales obtained in the second week.

Talk about spinning the facts. That's one sligh little trick in the first paragraph. He made the PSP sound better than the DS by comparing ENTIRELY DIFFERENT MARKETS. To compare US sales of one system to the European sales of another is dirty, underhanded, and an all around lie. The DS set a new sales record in the UK, surpassing all previous systems one week sales in only two days. This article bends the facts to make it seem like the PSP is stomping the DS, when statistics show DS is winning the overall race. The PSP had mediocre sales in the US at best. 600,000 may seem like a lot, but its actually quite low, especially when it was estimated to sell 1 million on day 1. Such twisted journalism is quite disturbing, and I hope people will obtain facts on their own and not fall for ridiculous stories such as this one.
